CMC Europe Volunteer’s testimony

Every year in April, there are various conferences in the UK that we can attend because of Easter. This year was no exception: we had COCM “Life-Empowered”, UK Mandarin Christian Conference, and the one we eleven brothers and sisters went to, the European Chinese Mission Conference.

The day was coming, I was preparing my heart for it since I had never thought about being sent back to China, not so far, but I was still going. At the beginning, I thought my purpose was to see those “super stars”, to listen to their preaching; but soon after I realized I just believed that God would guide me and lead me to the place that He wants me to be. You may have heard many testimonies and information about the conference from the other 10 brothers and sisters, as well as their gains and joyful stories; but here, I am going to share something special that happened to me at CMC.

On the first day after we unpacked our luggage, it was dinner time. While we were sharing dinner with around 400 people from all over Europe (to be honest, the food wasn’t very good), a sister sitting next to me started talking to us. Her name was Sarah, and she was one of the stewards from the US. Suddenly, she asked me: “Oh, do you know anything about taking photos or videos?”

CMC Daily News–Day 4

by Joanne on February 8, 2011

Jamie Taylor

In his final Bible exposition, Jamie shared about the motivating factors that cause people to serve in full-time missions including obeying God’s commandment (Matt 28, Acts 1:8), a deep sense of burden for the lostness and preciousness of souls, and the connection between the fulfillment of the Great Commission and the second coming of Christ. Jamie also used Daniel 1 to share seven characteristics of a person who is a vessel of God in a pagan land. These include:
1) Divine Perspective
2) A Servant’s Attitude
3) Holistic Witness
4) Holy Lifestyle
5) Bold Courage
6) Professional Excellence
7) Long-term Faithful Commitment

He concluded sharing the story of William Borden, who felt called to leave the comforts of America to witness overseas. To prepare he studied Arabic in Egypt, but fell ill and died before he could serve full-time in the way he planned. Yet, six words that he wrote in his Bible have been repeated many times over – “No RESERVES, NO RETREATS, NO REGRETS.” This is his legacy.

Workshop Summary — George Verwer

George Verwer’s “Seven Mega Trends in Missions” was a broad survey of world missions! Verwer shared with us — [1] Shift towards holistic ministry (proclamation and social concern)
[2] Explosion of new worship (instrumental in reaching young people, like in Hillsong)
[3] Technology in missions
[4] House church movement
[5] Business as missions (businesspeople in frontline mission roles)
[6] Explosion of short-term missions
[7] New sending countries (Africa, Asia, and South America send more missionaries than the West).

He also answered questions, including one about Muslim fundamentalism.

George shared how we must learn to trust God through divisive or confusing issues. We should learn and trust that the Lord will work. I was convicted to trust the Lord more myself! As a campus minister, I encounter some messes with students and I really need to learn that God uses craziness and mistakes for His glory and drawing people to Himself!

We only need to obey God and leave the results to him

Raymond and Priscilla Lee also shared the day before about the faithfulness of Abel. The only two things in the Bible shared about him is his offering to the Lord and being killed by his brother Cain. Our faithfulness to take the leap of faith to obey God as Abel did to provide an acceptable offering was his legacy and he entered Hebrews 11 Hall of Faith for his actions.
